World Indoor Rowing Championship

Posted by Concept2 News on the 15th of January 2003

We've never wanted to be an Indoor Rowing Newsletter. Our heroes have always been those hard-bitten newspaper men in trenchcoats who have a notebook permanently in their mitts, the sort who burst into the office in the final reel and say Boss, just hold that front page one moment longer and Mavis, maybe that wedding's back on after all. The reality is, however, the number of top-quality scoops we've had can be measured on the fingers of one foot. Until now that is.The big news that we hinted at last newsletter can now be revealed. The captain of the Great British team at this year's World Indoor Rowing Championship will be none other than Sir Steven Redgrave. Steve will be returning to Boston for the first time since 1991, when he won the Men's Open final. Although he's gonna be unable to compete due to a recent shoulder operation, he'll be adopting a Ryder Cup-captain style role in trying to bring as much precious metal back to good old Albion as possible. The World IRC takes place in Boston, USA on February 23rd. The important thing to remember is that anybody can take part: there is no minimum entry requirement and you don't have to be able to pull six minutes for 2,000m while standing on your head. If you want to come along, then contact Concept 2 on 0115 945 5522 or [email protected]. Alternatively, you can get a copy of the entry form from http://www.therowingcompany.com/wirc.
